The most popular sport in New Zealand is rugby. The local Super 12's rugby team is the Auckland Blues. The Vodafone Warriors are Auckland's Rugby League team and games take place at the Ericsson Stadium during the rugby season from April to September. Rugby Union is also played from April to September. The All Blacks are the national team and they play at several different venues in Auckland.

Other popular sports in Auckland include cricket and netball. There are six cricket grounds in Auckland, with the most prestigious of them being Eden Park, which has hosted international games since 1913. Horse racing events are also popular in Auckland, with the Alexander Park Raceway holding night meetings on Friday and Saturday.
