Australians have a keen passion for sports and Darwin offers several options for invigorating outdoor activities. One of the most popular sporting pastimes in Darwin is golf and the city features several excellent golf courses located near central Darwin. These courses offer excellent facilities, shops and panoramic views of the surrounding bush. Cycling is also a popular pastime, with plenty of excellent trails that wind through Darwin and its surroundings.

Rugby is a favourite sport in Darwin and the city is host to the annual Hottest Sevens, an international rugby tournament. The local Darwin Rugby League also holds regular matches at Richardson Park. Tickets are inexpensive and children under 17 as well as card-holding pensioners are admitted for free. Horse racing is an exiting and popular pastime here and the Darwin Turf Club, located in nearby Fannie Bay, holds regular race days throughout the year.
