Information about Sport in Glasgow - Glasgow, Scotland
In terms of spectator sports, cricket is increasingly popular in Glasgow, but football is still king here. The Glasgow Celtic Football Club play at the 60,000-seater Celtic Park, while the Glasgow Rangers Football Club play many games at the 50,000-seater Irbox Stadium. Glasgow's Queen's Park Football Club is an amateur club, but their home ground is Scotland's national football stadium in Hampden Park. This important stadium is where many of Scotland's international football matches are held. If you aren't a football fan, you might want to stir well clear of the pubs and streets after the match has finished as Glaswegians tend to be passionate about football and things can get a bit rowdy if the score wasn't in their favour.
Other popular pastimes here include golf, with the city having recently hosted the Open Golf Championship and many of Scotland's top courses being within easy driving distance. While for those who like to keep fit, Glasgow has plenty of well-equipped fitness and sports centres with excellent fitness and weight-training equipment. Many centres offer aerobics courses, personal trainers, saunas, solariums, steam rooms and massage. Glasgow also has its fair share of swimming pools.
