Sports are hugely popular in New Orleans and at the top of the pecking order are the city's two professional teams: the National Football League's Saints, who have traditionally played at the Superdome, and the Hornets of the National Basketball Association who play at New Orleans Arena. There is also an Arena Football League team, the New Orleans Voodoo; an AAA minor league baseball team, the Metairie; and a farm club for the Washington Nationals.

Bars and pubs throughout the city follow sporting events with a passion and there is no shortage of sports to follow. New Orleans frequently plays host to hordes of visiting college football fans who gather for the city's two most important bowl games, the New Orleans and the Sugar bowls.
